Board evaluation: Get prepared for end-of-financial-year reporting

Board evaluations are required annually for ASX-listed companies and APRA-regulated entities. Other entities may be required to undertake regular assessments or choose to do so as part of best practice governance – and for those companies where the evaluation is part of end-of-year reporting obligations now is a good time to complete your Board Review.

In our experience, the most effective boards are those that are open to understanding where they’re doing well and where there are opportunities to improve. A formal board evaluation is a valuable tool to help improve the effectiveness of your Board.

The board evaluation process provides the opportunity to review the capability and behaviours of the board and to get directors talking and working together on priority actions to benefit the effectiveness of the board and the organisation.

It’s worth considering and planning the type, scope and approach that best suits your organisation. Acclime provides board evaluations, conducted by way of online surveys that examine key board elements including leadership, board composition, strategy and risk, as well as board committee performance and stakeholder engagement. The Board is provided with a detailed analysis report highlighting areas of focus to help inform and prioritise actions and timelines and a Senior Governance Advisor will meet with you to help finalise an action plan for your Board.
